The City of Fortaleza
Fortaleza is situated strategically right beneath the Equator Line. It is the shortest itinerary between Brazil and Europe and Brazil and Africa, only a 6 and a half hour flight. Besides, it is half way through to other Brazilian states. For that and many other reasons, Fortaleza is well-known as the international entrance by sea and by air to South America regarding tourism, business and events.
The city of Fortaleza has an area of 336 square Km. To the north it is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. To the south it borders the villages of Pacatuba, Euzebio, Maracanau and Itaitinga. It borders the village of Aquiraz and the Atlantic Ocean in the east, and in the west we have the village of Caucaia.

Museums:
The Cachaça (Brazilian rum) Museum
A mansion built in colonial style dated from 1846 tells the story of Brazilian rum, the most popular spirit (strong alcoholic drink) in Brazil. The exhibition is a permanent one and its main attraction is the largest wooden cask in the world, its full capacity being 374 litres and a Guinness Book world record.
Beach Park Water Park
It is situated on the beach of “Porto das Dunas” in the town of Aquiraz, 30 km away from Fortaleza. And it is considered the largest water park in Latin America and the biggest tourism undertaking in Ceara. Among its attractions there are water slides, a wave pool, water falls, Noah’s arch, Treasure Island and more.
The Iracema Beach
It is a favourite meeting point for poets and intellectuals. The Iracema Beach is the ideal place for whoever wants to enjoy good music, a chat with friends, stroll around and watch the sunset. Besides that, the district, which is a national heritage site, offers excellent gastronomic options.
The Cumbuco Beach
In the village of Caucaia, distant 37 km from Fortaleza, we will find the Cumbuco Beach. A charming fishing village which attracts tourists because of its beautiful scenery. It can be explored on buggy rides and they may be “with or without emotion”, meaning the tourists will be taken on a wild ride by experienced drivers or the buggy cart will go slowly.
The beach has a lot of gorgeous dunes, where fresh water lakes are inserted in. The “Lagoa da Banana” (Lake of Banana) is the largest of them, and it is ideal to practice some of the most popular water sports such as jet skiing, banana boat, speed boat and windsurfing.
The White Hill Beach
Situated 85 km away from Fortaleza, the While Hill Beach has dunes and cliffs forming labyrinths from where colourful sand is extracted. Yes, the scenery is misleading because at first sight the cliffs look as if made of white sand. And as we get close to them, a great set of colours is shown. From white to red there are 12 hues altogether. This phenomenon inspires local craftsmen who try to reproduce the beautiful seashore using colourful sand inside small bottles.
The Beach of Fountains
It is not difficult to find out why the Beach of Fountains, 87 km away from Fortaleza, has its name. From the reddish cliffs that form the scenery on this strip of coastline, an endless number of fountains flow with fresh, drinkable water. Overlooking the cliffs, the calm green sea brings out the beauty of the place, which is ideal for hiking. You can hire buggy carts to drive along the dunes, where you can reach the Uruau Lake, the biggest and most gorgeous of all region.
The Jericoacoara Beach
Distant 320 km from Fortaleza, it is the greatest star of all Ceara’s coastline: Jericoacoara. It is considered one of the ten most beautiful beaches around the world. Jeri is deserving of the title.
The calm sea of transparent water is inviting. And watching the sunset from dunes – almost thirty metres high – top off the evening in this environmental protected area.
